LUMBERTON - Police were looking late Friday for a Lumberton woman who escaped from a holding room at the Police Department the day before.
Christy Bledsole, 34, of 8 Albion St., was in custody on charges of identity theft and automobile larceny. She had been arrested at Motel 6.
“We had left to search the (hotel) room,” Detective Sgt. Steve Sutton said. “Somebody was going to go around there and watch her, and then she wasn't in the room. She just walked out of the side door.”
Sutton said Bledsoe was wearing leg irons when she escaped.
Bledsole is accused of stealing a car from Carthage Road and using the owner's ID to try cash a check she stole from a mailbox in the county. Sutton said police were alerted after Bledsole tried to cash the check at a Lumbee Bank branch.
Bledsoe was charged with identity theft, forgery and uttering, and auto larceny. She also is expected to be charged with stealing the leg shackles and resisting arrest, Sutton said.
She was out on bail for separate identity theft and forgery charges when the new charges were brought.
Anyone with information about Bledsole can call the Lumberton Police Department at 671-3845.
