I am a descendant of the African American famlies, Barfied and Sinclair. Sampson Barfied was my great-great-great grandfather and he was a slave of Cornelius Barfield. My great grandparents were Daniel Sinclair and Nina Brown Sinclair. All of them are from Robeson County. I am currently trying to locate any living Barfied or Sinclairs whom are still living there. If anyone out there know of any African American Barfields or Sinclairs, please email me. Some of the Barfields names were Jasper, Garfield, Margaret. Some of the Sinclair names were Auther, Maybell and Lulla Bell. Thanks in advance.

I really enjoy your newspaper. I lived in Lumberton for a while but my mother’s family is from there. Her name is Bonnie Belle Parnell. Her father was Furman M. Parnell and her mother was Addie C. Phillips. I would really love to hear from any of the family that still live there like cousins etc. and anyone that may have known my grandparents, mother, aunts, or uncles. It is really nice to read what’s going on in Lumberton. Thanks again.

Hello,

My grandmother’s family is from Robeson County. She was born in the Barnesville area. Her name was Nina Sinclair. If there are any African American Sinclairs currently living in the Robeson County area, please contact me. I am currently writing my family history. Nina’s father’s name was Dan(iel) Sinclair and I believe that Dan’s father’s name was Simpson/Sampson Sinclair.

I would love to hear from any African American Sinclair or Barfield families currently living in the area

I was shocked by ‘Cutler’s passing. I remember he worked as a salesman @ Freeman Motors many years ago (10 to 15 yrs ago.) I remember he was a pleaant, quiet, respectful person. Though, I never knew him personally; I remember his smile. “I’ve often heard that 1st impression is “last impression”. Well in this case it was. So, even though, I only knew him from, “a sight.” and from saying, maybe “Good Morning,” I feel and O truly believe that others feel the same; Yes, he was special. I feel honored to respond to this. He had a ‘special’ personality. I feel privileged to respond. Thank you. May God bless you and the other children. Thank you. M. Davis.

Hello all,

I am a genealogist researching my Sinclair, Brown and Humphrey ancestors. My great grandparents were Daniel and Vina Sinclair. Their daughter, Nina was my grandmother who married Leroy Burch from SC. Nina passed away in 1946 and I am trying to locate Nina’s daughter, who went to live with her Aunt Ruth in Robeson County in 1946. Nina’s daughter’s name was Edna born around 1934 or so. I think Ruth married a Humphrey. Vina’s maiden name was Brown and her parents were possibly Sandy and Betsy Brown. If any of this sounds familiar to anyone, please email me.

Hello to everyone in Robeson County and especially Rowland. Thanks to the Robesonian for putting the newspaper on the internet. It makes me feel somewhat connected even though I am not close by geographically. I currently live in Atlanta, GA and I am fortunate that I am able to come HOME on a regular basis. A special prayer goes out to those that are serving in the military while our world as we know it is threatened. To the class of South Robeson High School class of 1990 please drop me a line by clinking on my name below. To those I went to nursing school at Robeson Community College, I would love to hear from you as well. And to those working at Southeastern Regional Medical Center, I have been in 3 different hospitals and nothing compares to the quality of care received at SERMC, I truly miss that hospital. I was born there and I think eventually I will come back to retire there. Take care and take care of each other!

Hi, to everyone back in Robeson and Hoke county. I now live in Roswell, New Mexico and look forward to reading the Robesonian online. I have family in both these counties and appreciate being able to read the newspaper and can discuss the issues with family members. I visited the area back in July of 2001 and was surprised at how much Lumberton has grown. I am a Lumbee Indian and I’m so glad I can go online and get so much information about the Lumbee tribe. I have a son that lives in Tenn. and he wanted to know about his hertiage and I was able to download all the info for him. Thanks so much for being there.

I am here for one reason, and that is to recognize YOUR recognition of MY ‘DREAMGIRL’, MARY WILSON of the SUPREMES! I was directed to this from the Yahoo Group for Ms. Wilson. And I am glad that I was. To read your posting did my heart good in such a time as this when I needed to hear something positive on the Legends of World History music when so many things seem to have gone to ‘pot’ or have taken such deplorable directions! It’s sooo refreshing to see a FIREY and EXCITING and VIBRANT Mary Wilson TAKE the stage and rip through a performance like not many can today! I only wish that she HAD gotten or still DOES get her just due in recognition as a ‘tour de FORCE’ in the industry! I have seen her shows, and I admit that they are the BEST of the ones I’ve seen! And her tour of ‘SOPHISTICATED LADIES’ with Duke Ellington’s Orchestra opened up a whole new genre and a whole new point of view for ME as well as a whole N!
EW level of respect for THAT LADY! AND her tenacity in the business against ALL ODDS has CONTINUED to be a remote source of inspiration for ME! And I say “Here’s TO YOU” for recognizing her! And “HAIL MARY”!
