Red Springs-South Robeson game on TWC
ROWLAND — Tonight’s Three Rivers Conference opener between South Robeson and Red Springs has been selected as the Time Warner Cable Game of the Week.
Time Warner subscribers can watch a broadcast of the game on Saturday at 9 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. on TWC channel 60. The game will also be available on demand through channel 1083.
LHS soccer tops East Bladen
LUMBERTON — The Lumberton soccer team struggled to break East Bladen’s defensive strategy but still edged out the Eagles 2-0 on Thursday in a non-conference game.
The Pirates (9-3) went ahead 1-0 at halftime after a goal by Arash Hosseini, then got a second-half goal from Bradley Burnette. Mihir Patel and Miguel Bello had assists.
LHS volleyball beats Pinecrest
SOUTHERN PINES — The Lumberton volleyball team broke a three-match losing streak with a 3-2 win against Pinecrest.
The Pirates (10-4, 3-3 Southeastern Conference) beat the Patriots 18-25, 25-17, 14-25, 25-17, 15-13.
Lumberton coach Jeff McLamb said his team played balanced, getting six kills each from Kayla Kerns and Joy Church. Three players had five kills. Abby Kinlaw had 25 assists on the team’s 28 kills.
“I thought we did a better job of not depending one one person,” McLamb said.
Purnell Swett loses to Scotland
LAURINBURG — The Purnell Swett volleyball opened strong wit a first-set win on Thursday, but ultimately lost in four games to perennial conference power Scotland. Madeline Milholland put together 20 kills for the Scots.
360 Elite starting local teams
FAYETTEVILLE — The Fayetteville-based 360 Elite Baseball Academy is expanding its competitive travel teams to Robeson County.
The academy is looking to create county teams at the 10U, 11U, 12U, 13U, and 14U levels that will be run by experienced coaches.
Tryouts for 13U and 14U teams will be held on Oct. 4 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Tom Cope Field in Red Springs. Tryouts for the 10U, 11U, and 12U teams are Oct. 5 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the same location. Individual tryouts will be also be held throughout the winter for interested players.

Football, cheer team seeks players
NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The Columbus Panthers, an AAU football and cheerleading team that will play games in the North Myrtle Beach area, is looking for players and cheerleaders to play in a travel ball league starting in November.
The teams are for ages 12 to 14 and games are expected to be played in multiple states.

Horseshoe tournament next month
LUMBERTON — Riverbank Screen Printing Company and Robeson County Parks and Recreation will be holding a horseshoe tournament on Oct. 19 at Sam Noble Park in Lumberton.
The tournament starts at 2 p.m. and there is a $20 entry fee per team that includes food, prizes and trophies for the top two teams. For information call 910-735-2707. Teams can register in advance by visiting Riverbank Screen Printing at 509 W. 2nd St. in Lumberton.
LRD holding adult football tourney
The Lumberton Recreation Department will be hosting a 7-on-7 adult flag football tournament on Nov. 9. There is a $150 entry fee per team and all players must be 18 years old with valid ID.
