Descendants sought for Henry Berry Lowry reunion

October 2, 2013

To the Editor,

March 3, 2015, will be the 150th anniversary of the beginning of The Lowery War, when during some of our darkest times in Robeson County, a brave young man by the name of Henry Berry Lowery rose from the swamps and distinguished himself by valorously fighting for his people and thus becoming the legend which he is today.

With that being said, I am searching for descendants of his youngest daughter, Nelia Ann “Polly” Lowery, in order to have a Henry Berry Lowery 150-year anniversary family gathering and reunion to honor his unwavering heroic courage, selflessness, and fierce decisive leadership. It will be on March, 7 2015, possibly at “Strike at the Wind!”

I do believe to the best of my knowledge that this will be the first event of its kind since the days of Henry Berry Lowery and there has never been an actual Henry Berry Lowery family reunion. I am accurately tracing each descendant and cross referencing them with my data to ensure they are indeed true descendants. Direct descendants refers to a blood relative in the direct line of descent — the children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, etc., of a person. I also have a group on Facebook called: Direct Descendants of Henry Berry Lowery.

I have made significant progress so far, with well over 300 people.
