LUMBERTON — The BelkGives On the Go program will bring a mobile mammography center to Lumberton from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday as part of a 49-week regional program to bring free breast cancer screenings to local residents.
Belk and Charlotte Radiology will offer the free screenings by licensed, female mammography-certified technologists. A board-certified radiologist will interpret the mammogram and confidential results will be sent to the patient and her primary care physician. The event will be in the parking lot outside of the Belk store at Biggs Park Mall.
In order to receive a free mammogram, patients must be age 40 or over with no breast cancer concerns, have not had a mammogram in the last 12 months and have a primary care physician. For information or to schedule an appointment, call 855-655-2662 or visit www.belk.com/pink.
Brandon Rice, manager of the Belk store, said the screenings are part of an annual event to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is October.
“This is something Belk has been doing for the last couple of years to raise money for breast cancer awareness,” Rice said. “Belk actually purchased this RV and made it into a mobile unit.”
Rice said this will be the mobile center’s first stop in Lumberton.
“They can’t go to every store, so we’re really excited to have them come here,” he said.
Belk and Charlotte Radiology have partnered to bring the mobile mammography center to 113 Belk stores in North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee through January.
