LUMBERTON — Lumberton police have arrested three people they say are responsible for 15 property theft cases in Robeson, Hoke and Cumberland counties, according to Lumberton police Capt. Terry Parker.
Jeffery Deshawn Hunt, 22, of 1939 Pinewood Road in Fairmont, Robert Jacob Oxendine, 21, of 1729 Rennert Road, Lumberton, and 19-year-old Tyjohnete Eshaunta Johnson, of 403 Sparrow Lane, Lumberton, each face a long list charges, including breaking and entering and larceny.
Parker said the arrests solved eight cases in Lumberton, one in Robeson County, one in Fayetteville, and five in Hoke County.
According to Parker, the three men were arrested after a patrol officer spotted them in a blue 1996 Honda Civic that had been labeled “suspicious.” Parker said the officer found a wallet that belongs to a resident in the Mayfair community and determined through an investigation that person’s vehicle had been broken into.
Parker said investigators found more stolen property in the car and other stolen items at a home on Lee Circle in Lumberton.
“We recovered three or four military duffel bags, backpacks, military uniforms … ,” Parker said. “There was a laptop belonging to someone from the military whose car was broken into … literally there was a truckload.”
Also found were 10 to 12 GPS units, cellphones, iPods, cameras and binoculars, he said.
Parker said the Honda belongs to a woman who owns the home on Lee Circle.
“She loaned the car to one of the men in the group,” he said.
Parker did not want to release the woman’s name, but said she has not been charged with any crimes.
Hunt, Oxendine and Johnson are each charged with six counts of breaking and entering motor vehicles, three counts of felony conspiracy, three counts of misdemeanor larceny, two counts of felony possession of stolen goods, felony larceny, felony conspiracy larceny and attempted breaking and entering.
Hunt and Oxendine are also each charged with five counts of misdemeanor possession of stolen goods, and Hunt is charged with carrying a concealed weapon, a knife, and carrying a concealed gun.
Hunt was jailed under a $95,000 secured bond, Oxendine under a $80,000 secured bond and Johnson under a $75,000 secured bond.
