LUMBERTON — A St. Pauls man was killed last week when his motorcycle ran off Barker Ten Mile Road and crashed into a road sign, according to the state Highway Patrol.

The wreck happened at 8:59 p.m. Thursday near East Great Marsh Road, about four miles southeast of St. Pauls, according to the Highway Patrol.

Harold Dean McLean, 55, of 1527 Martin Road, was driving a 2011 Tao Tao motorcycle north on Barker Ten Mile Road when he failed to negotiate a curve because of the speed he was traveling, the patrol report said. The vehicle hit a road sign, causing it to overturn and ejecting McLean.

McLean was wearing a helmet, but it did not meet specifications of the state Department of Transportation, according to the report. He was pronounced dead at Southeastern Regional Medical Center.
