LUMBERTON — A former president of the PTA at Tanglewood Elementary School has been charged with embezzling money from that organization.

Lumberton police Capt. Terry Parker said Angela Bono-Severy is charged with 39 counts each of forgery and embezzlement for stealing as much as $15,000 from the PTA. Her bail was set at $40,000.

According to Parker, the current president of the PTA, Dawn Gavasci, contacted police in September and said the association was missing money. Parker said police believe between $10,000 and $15,000 was taken sometime in between August 2010 and Sept. 18. Parker said that Bono-Severy was treasurer of the PTA when the money was taken.

The PTA is made up of parents and other supporters of the school; it raises money to promote activities at the school.

The Robesonian attempted to get photograph of Bono-Severy to publish, but she was not processed at the county jail and one was not available.
