Geeking for the library

November 10, 2013

Robeson County Public Library is looking for geeks.

“Geek the Library” is a national library awareness program with the core message that whatever you “geek,” the library has all sorts of materials to support your passions and interests. “Geek” means to love, to celebrate, to have a passion for.

Take a photo of what you “geek.” It could be anything. The only rule: It has to be taken in Robeson County. Send your digital image to with the words “Photo Contest” in the subject line. In your email, include the name of your photo and some information about where it was taken and why it is important to you. Also include your name and contact information.

The library will post entries on our Flickr site and winners will be chosen by viewers’ choice. Photos will also be printed and displayed in the Lumberton Library.

The photo with the most votes at noon on Dec. 6 will win first prize, a $25 Starbucks gift card. The next three most popular photos will win second prize, $5 iTunes Cards. Look on our website,, for complete information.

All photos must be family friendly and in jpg format. Hard copy photos will not be accepted and will not be returned. Robeson County Public Library reserves the non-exclusive right to use the photographs at its discretion. The photographer is responsible for obtaining any necessary permissions if his/her photograph includes an identifiable individual.

Mark your calendar for Feb. 22 and plan to spend the whole day at Book ‘Em North Carolina. This year, not only will there be more than 75 authors participating, but Jamie Oldaker, drummer for Eric Clapton, and John Regan, legendary musician, composer and bass guitarist for rock icons Mick Jagger and David Bowie, will be coming to Lumberton for special appearances. The event is free and open to the public. However, the admission to see special guests Oldaker and Regan is the purchase of one book to help raise money for literacy in Lumberton. Purchase one book to support the cause and have a rocking good time. Hope to see you there.
