Family thankful to UNCP for posthumous award

December 11, 2013

To the Editor,

Our family would like to publicly thank Chancellor Kyle Carter, Dr. Jones, Dr. Raleigh, Dr. Mandjiny, Dr. Ritter, Dr. Bahr, LTC Gradnigo and the many other faculty and staff for the kindness shown at the Winter Commencement Ceremony at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

A special thanks to all of the Air Force ROTC cadets that came out to show support, and especially LTC Gradnigo for the presentations to the family. Those items will be treasured always.

On Dec. 7, 2013, my niece, Allyson Burrill, was posthumously awarded a dual major degree in Forensic Chemistry and Criminology by Chancellor Carter. It was an honor received by Allyson’s sister, 1st Lt.. Samantha Burrill. The event was very moving and done in such a way as to not infringe on the joy of the other families and graduates.

We appreciated that so much and will be forever grateful. Allyson was truly blessed to be part of such a caring school. We will surely recommend UNCP to graduating seniors who are looking for a school dedicated to student successes and accomplishments — and especially treat them as family.
