Salas coached at South Johnston High for seven seasons before joining the Red Devils in August. In 13 games, Red Springs' offense averaged 36.2 points per game in Salas' Air Raid scheme. The up-tempo offense was led by sophomore quarterback Blake Greene, Robeson County's Offensive Player of the Year, who tallied 42 total touchdowns.
Red Springs' 14-13 first-round home playoff win against Midway was the school's first postseason victory since 2005.
Red Springs athletic director and head football coach George Coltharp declined comment on offseason coaching staff changes. The school board's approval is expected on Feb. 13.
"As always, I'm constantly evaluating my staff and looking to bring together a quality group of coaches that will help mold the student-athletes of Red Springs into good people and great players," he said.
Salas would replace Pat Byrd who resigned in November after the Knights finished 1-9 overall, including an 0-6 mark in the Waccamaw Conference. In two seasons, Byrd, a former head coach at West Columbus, compiled a 4-16 record after stepping in for Russell Marlowe.
