ST. PAULS — The readers have spoken, and 10-month-old Amiyah Prevatt has been crowned the cutest kid in all of Robeson County.
The St. Pauls toddler came out on top in The Robesonian’s annual Cutest Kid contest. She garnered 352 votes in the online competition, which gave parents, grandparents and legal guardians the chance to share their most “awwww”-inspiring photographs of children ages 12 years and younger.
Registration began July 1 at robesonian.com and the polls closed Wednesday. As always, the contest was free to enter and there was no charge to vote.
According to her mother, Amiyah’s nicknames include “Facebook Baby” and “Fashionista.”
“She is very photogenic and loves to be the center of attention,” Kelsey Prevatt wrote in her submission. “She smiles and loves everybody she meets. She also loves to dance and listen to music.”
Kelsey says her daughter has been getting “into everything” since she started walking in June, but is a little angel most of the time — she even sings in her church choir.
“We lost her grandmother in January of 2014 and God gave us Amiyah in September,” Kelsey said. “She has been a blessing to our family.”
Amiyah will receive a $100 cash prize for winning courtesy of the competition’s longtime sponsor, Cottonwood Pre-Elementary School.
“We’ve worked with Cottonwood on the Cutest Kids Contest many times in the past,” said Robin Walker, regional media director for The Robesonian’s parent company, Civitas Media.“Kindergarten can be a big, scary leap for children, and we’re happy to help support Cottonwood’s mission to make the transition smoother for them. Students who start school with previous experience in a classroom setting are more likely to succeed.”
Founded in 1998, Cottonwood provides “a child-centered environment which nurtures the emotional, physical and social growth” of its students, according to the school’s mission statement.
