PEMBROKE — A group of former “Cirque du Soleil” performers will bring big top-style spectacle to Givens Performing Arts Center on Friday.

Featuring memorable stunts from that famous production, “Cirque Montage” will bring pole climbers, contortionists, aerialists and foot jugglers to the center, which is located on the campus of The University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

Chad Locklear, the center’s marketing director, expects the show to be a hit.

“I think on campus, ‘Cirque Montage’ will be popular,” he told The Robesonian last month.. “It’s a circus act; we’ve had a few of those before and they are really popular with our students and the community.”

“Cirque du Soleil” is a staple in Las Vegas, where tourists flock to see the show’s jaw-dropping feats of agility. “Cirque Montage” was designed to translate that experience to a more intimate setting.

The show offers a mix of “daring and skill that defies the perception of what is impossible,” according to a press release.

Tickets for the show, which starts at 8 p.m., range from $21 to $36. The discounted rate is $10 for students attending The University of North Carolina at Pembroke; $16 for university faculty and staff, as well as for children and students attending other colleges; and $26 for alumni of UNCP.
