LUMBERTON — A group of homespun comediennes promise to leave Robeson County residents in stitches on Saturday.

Southern Fried Chicks will perform at the Carolina Civic Center as part of the troupe’s Cage-Free Comedy Tour. The show stars Etta May and features Sonya White and Karen Mills.

A native of Kentucky, May has been named Comic of the Year by the American Comedy Awards. Her television credits include appearances on “Oprah,” “Comic Strip Live,” and “Comedy Stage.” She’s also a regular guest on syndicated radio programs like “The Bob and Tom Show” and video countdowns on CMT.

White is a Virginia native who specializes in impersonations. Now living in Chicago, the stand-up has had guest roles in several sitcoms, including Fox’s “Nightshift” and The Family Channel’s “Big Brother Jake.” Smaller fans may not recognize her face, but there’s a good chance they’ve heard her voice in animated shows on Cartoon Network.

Mills is the most musically inclined member of the group. Her parody songs “Menopause Rap” and “Hot Flash Mob” have racked up thousands of downloads on iTunes. The Tennessee native has toured with famous funny people like Joan Rivers, Ron White and Jon Stewart. Mills began her career in show business as a writer on “The Rosie O’Donnell Show.”

The ladies gained national exposure after CMT aired an hour-long Southern Fried Chicks stand-up special in 2006. Their upcoming performance will continue a trend of down-home comedy at the civic center, which has previously hosted southern humorists like Jeanne Robertson and James Gregory.

The show starts at 7 p.m. and tickets are $23, or $17 each with the advance purchase of 10 or more. The Carolina Civic Center is located at 315 N. Chestnut St. in downtown Lumberton.

Following the Southern Fried Chicks, the civic center will hold its fourth annual production of “A Robeson County Christmas” from Dec. 11 to Dec. 13. Created and written by Kendrix Singletary, the show features an all-local cast fronted by former Miss North Carolina Johna Edmonds and Brent Tyler, a state trooper-turned-“X-Factor” contestant.
