Crash kills Hamlet woman

LUMBERTON — A Hamlet woman was killed Sunday after a vehicle she was riding in struck a utility pole on Pine Street in Lumberton, according to the Lumberton Police Department.

Tabitha Benton, 30, of Jordan Court in Hamlet, was riding in a 2005 Toyota when it ran off the road and struck a utility pole near the intersection of Pine and 12th streets, said police Maj. Tommy Barnes.

Barnes said police are awaituing the results of a blood test on the driver of the Toyota, 51-year-old Katrina Grant, of Orange Street in Lumberton, to determine if charges will be filed.
