MOREHEAD CITY (AP) — Another community in the Carolinas has gone on record against offshore seismic testing and drilling.

The council in Morehead City passed a resolution against offshore drilling on Tuesday. According to the advocacy group Oceana, 20 communities in North Carolina, including Wilmington, are now on record opposing offshore drilling.

The resolution passed the same day as the City Council in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, passed a similar declaration. That means there are also 20 communities in South Carolina opposed to the idea, including Columbia and Charleston.

Opponents say offshore drilling could threaten the environment and the tourism industry of the Carolinas. Supporters say offshore drilling can be done safely and will bring jobs and tax revenues to both states.
