Charges upgraded against teen accused of murder

FAYETTEVILLE (AP) — Charges have been upgraded against one of the men charged in the death of a Cumberland County teen last year.

Local media outlets report that a grand jury this week indicted 19-year-old Michael Malloy on a charge of first-degree murder.

Fifteen-year-old Danielle Locklear was reported missing in March 2014. Police say Malloy admitted to choking the Hope Mills girl, stuffing a sock in her mouth, tying her body to cinder blocks and throwing it in the river.

Earlier this year, 19-year-old Dominic Tayvon Lock pleaded guilty to helping dispose Locklear’s body. Both he and Malloy were originally with second-degree murder.

Malloy is still awaiting trial and remains in jail.
