PEMBROKE — The second week of the candidate filing period for those wanting to run for Lumbee tribal chairman or one of seven district seats on the Lumbee Tribal Council kicked off Monday with one person filing to be a council candidate in the Nov. 17 election.
Janet Locklear filed to run for the District 10 seat. District 10, currently represented by Terry Collins, encompasses Shannon, Rennert and South St. Pauls.
Because the Lumbee Constitution prohibits an elected council member from holding more than two consecutive three-year terms, Collins is not eligible for re-election.
Locklear did not provide The Robesonian with any biographical information or a photo.
The candidate filing period for the Nov. 17 election continues through Sept. 18. Those wishing to file to run for tribal chairman or one of the seven district seats on the Tribal Council can do so from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Friday at the Elections Board office at 78-D, Three Hunt’s Drive in COMtech business park, just outside of Pembroke on N.C. 711.
