LUMBERTON — The Robeson Regional Agricultural Fair will be shuttered again today because of wet weather, but Robeson County residents and guests should be able to enjoy a rain-free day at the fair on Tuesday.

Posts on the fair’s social media pages made the announcement, saying “Mother Nature wins again.”

Coble D. Wilson, Jr., the fair board’s president emeritus, said that Avery Hurt, Pat Garrett and Beat Your Boots, as well as other local entertainment groups and artists, have been cancelled and cannot be rescheduled. All activities planned for Tuesday will continue as planned except for the Cheerleading contest which will be rescheduled for a later date.

Wilson said that the invitation only special needs day has been rescheduled for Thursday, but senior citizen day will still be observed on Wednesday.

Heavy rains drenching much of the East Coast have dampened the annual event. The fair was slated to begin on Friday. It was not open to the public on Saturday and gates were open for about five hours on Sunday.

“The ground it just so saturated,” said Wilson. “We’re so much better off than surrounding places, at least we have some light at the end of the tunnel.”

With forecasts calling for sunny skies after today, Wilson said the fair will definitely open Tuesday.

Updates are being posted on the fair’s Facebook page and on its website, www.robesoncountyfair.com. Check the website for the full fair schedule and schedule changes.
