LUMBERTON — A Lumberton man was injured Thursday in a shooting on Page Street.

According to a police report, Desmond Burden, 37, suffered “major” injuries to his upper leg when he was struck by gunfire while on the street’s 200 block.

The shooting was reported at about 2:15 p.m. on Thursday. No suspects or other victims were listed in the report.

Lumberton City Councilman John Cantey, who went to the home immediately after the shooting, said the residence has been a “constant problem area” for neighbors. Cantey said he plans to look into pursuing nuisance abatement against the landlord.

The shooting was the second reported on Page Street in a week. Roderick McNeill, 20, suffered serious injuries when he was shot by two men on Oct. 2, according to a police report.

No description of the shooters was available other than their race and gender. The Robesonian doesn’t publish a suspect’s race unless there is other identifying information provided.
