RED SPRINGS — Red Springs police Capt. Kevin Locklear has been suspended without pay, according to Town Manager James Bennett.

Bennet said he could not say why Locklear was put on unpaid leave last week, calling it a personnel matter.

He said Tuesday morning that Locklear is still employed with the town. Bennett did not give an end-date for Locklear’s suspension, saying “there is a process” the town must go through.

Locklear was recently cited in a traffic accident in Raeford in his patrol car.

The accident occurred on Palmer Street in Raeford at about 7:30 a.m. on Oct. 31. According to a collision report, Locklear’s Dodge Charger crossed the center-line into oncoming traffic, striking a Nissan driven by Alexandra Patterson of Raeford.

Locklear was cited with failing to maintain lane control. According to the report, he was suspected of being impaired, but no drug test was administered and he has not been charged with driving while impaired.
