LUMBERTON — A Lumberton artist is lending a hand to hungry families.

From 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Thomas Ard will be selling doodles and Christmas ornaments at Tangled Salon in Lumberton. For every piece sold, the 28-year-old will donate a bag of food to Second Harvest Food Bank.

“I just wanted to do something to give back and reach people who needed help,” he said. “This is one of my busiest seasons of the year, so I just knew I could get a lot of response and provide a lot of meals.”

Offered through a partnership with Lowes Food, each bag will contain enough groceries to make a family-sized meal. Ard hopes to donate 100 bags during his sale at the salon, which is located at 514 Liberty Hall Road.

A graduate of The University of North Carolina at Pembroke, Ard’s whimsical designs have appeared on bowls, fabrics, coffee mugs, wine glasses and even decorative flags.

As a designer for Evergreen Enterprises, a Virginia-based home decor company, Ard has been featured in more than 200,000 stores across the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. Ard has also licensed art to other companies and released designs under his own banner, Tom Tom Designs.

The artist says he has “big” projects in development for 2016, but is unable to share details at this time.

“I’ve got some things in the works that I’m excited about but can’t really talk about now,” he said.
