PARKTON — A Fayetteville woman has been charged in a three-car crash early Tuesday morning that killed a Shannon man, according to the state Highway Patrol.

According to a report filed by Trooper B.L. Bullard, Bryant Chacon was killed after a vehicle that had been side-swiped lost control and struck his SUV. Chacon, 27, lived on Duck Street in Shannon.

The accident, which snarled traffic, occurred at about 6:50 a.m. on N.C. 71 near U.S. 301 when a passenger car being driven east by 37-year-old Wanda Hall of Fayetteville crossed the center line and side-swiped an oncoming truck, according to the report. Hall’s vehicle struck a ditch and came to rest in a field.

The truck, which was driven by Emery Delong, 48, of Raeford, then ran off the road and swerved back onto the road before crossing the center-line and colliding with Chacon’s eastbound SUV, the report said.

According to Bullard, Hall suffered fractures in her back and Delong suffered a broken hand.

There were no passengers in any of the three vehicles. Speed was not a factor, Bullard said.

Hall has been charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, driving left of center and driving while her license was revoked, according to Sgt. Daniel Hilburn.
