ROWLAND — Oryan Lowry, town administrator in Rowland, is resigning that position.

Lowry told The Robesonian he plans to announce his resignation this afternoon during a meeting with members of the town’s Board of Commissioners. Lowry became administrator in Rowland on July 1, 2014, after serving as manager in Pembroke.

Lowry said he will release more information about his plans after meeting with the commissioners. He said that his decision to resign has nothing to do with his working relationship with the town’s new mayor, James Hampton.

“I have loved the opportunity to work in Rowland. The community has reached out to me and I have appreciated that since day one,” he said. “I wish the citizens of Rowland well.”

Lowry said that his decision to leave government and go to work in the private sector is one aimed at furthering his career.

“This is an opportunity for me to better myself and make more money,” he said. “It also offers me the opportunity to continue living in the area since I will be working in surrounding counties.”

Although he did not specify what his new job will be, Lowry hinted that it will be in a health-related field. Before getting into municipal administration he had worked as a science teacher with the Public Schools of Robeson County and as a compliance officer with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
