SANFORD (AP) — A weekend effort to find homes for the animals which were rescued from an unlicensed shelter in Hoke County is ending a day earlier because all the animals have been adopted.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said in a statement that homes were found for more than 700 dogs and cats by Saturday afternoon.

The owners of an unlicensed Raeford facility were charged with animal cruelty and possession of a controlled substance. They surrendered the animals to the ASPCA.

The ASPCA says it appreciated the overwhelming support for the adoption drive.
