TARBORO (AP) — Officials in Edgecombe County say two retired educators found dead in their home were the victims of a murder-suicide.

The Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office told local media outlets that deputies went to a Tarboro home for a welfare check. When they arrived there Monday morning, they found the bodies of 71-year-old Annie Perry and 72-year-old Curtis Lee Perry.

According to a statement from the sheriff’s office, deputies found Annie Perry’s body in a bedroom with a gunshot wound. The statement said Curtis Perry was found in a different room with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Authorities said there were neither signs of forced entry nor any indication of a disturbance.

Curtis Perry was a retired assistant principal at Tarboro High School. Annie Perry was a retired teacher.
