LUMBERTON — The Robeson Board of Commissioners on Monday will discuss funding for summer camps and an appointment to the board for the Department of Social Services.

County Manager Ricky Harris said commissioners have long donated to help children attend summer camps at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke through their discretionary funds. Mary Beth Locklear, director of UNCP’s Office for Regional Initiatives, on Monday night will speak to the board about the program.

The Board of Commissioners will also vote on whether to reappoint Commissioner Raymond Cummings to another three-year term on the Social Services board. Cummings’ current term expires June 30.

The board will also hold a public hearing on a request for a conditional-use permit that applicant Adonay Quintanilla needs to establish a third dwelling on a 3.55-acre tract on Hucks Drive in Red Springs. The Planning Board recommended that the permit be granted.

As part of its consent agenda, the board will vote on whether to allow Proctorville to become part of Orrum’s Fire Tax District. Harris said the change will be simpler for tax collection purposes, but will not have any effect on residents in that district.

The board will convene as the Robeson County Housing Authority to hear reports from the agency’s interim director.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the commissioners room of the county administration building.
