LUMBERTON — Three people were killed on Robeson County roads this weekend, including a passenger in a vehicle that crashed while trying to flee from police, according to local law enforcement agencies. The driver of that vehicle was critically injured in the accident.

Speed was cited as a factor in all three deadly accidents.

Korin Michelle Rose, 26, of Hamlet, was killed when the vehicle she was a passenger in ran off Hezekiah Road in Pembroke and overturned.

The Dodge pickup, driven by 19-year-old Jeremiah Eli Lowery, of Maxton, was being pursued by a Highway Patrol trooper, according to 1st Sgt. Jeremy Brewington of the state Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred Saturday at about 3:20 a.m.

Lowery and Rose were both thrown from the vehicle. Charges against Lowery, who is currently in critical condition, are pending.

According to Brewington, Trooper Mike Chavis was trying to pull Lowery over for a traffic violation but Lowery did not stop, reaching speeds of 95 mph before he crashed. Neither Lowery nor Rose was wearing a seat belt.

A second accident occurred at about 6:23 p.m. Saturday when Larry Donnell Murphy, 46, of Rowland, was thrown from his motorcycle after running off the road. Murphy was traveling northwest on Odom Road in Lumberton.

On Friday night, a Lumberton man was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle on West Fifth Street.

According to the Lumberton Police Department, speed was a factor in the wreck that killed 41-year-old Stein Davis. Davis’ last known address was on Caple Street.

Davis was traveling alone on his motorcycle when he crashed in front of West Lumberton Baptist Church. He was declared dead on the scene.
