WILMINGTON (AP) — The Coast Guard has rescued an ill man from a fishing boat off the North Carolina coast.

The Coast Guard said in a news release that its Wilmington station received a request for help from a 37-foot sport fishing boat off Corolla on the Outer Banks around 1:30 p.m. Monday.

A helicopter on a training mission diverted to the fishing boat about 35 miles out to sea and picked up the sick man.

He was flown to a hospital in Norfolk, Virginia, around 3 p.m. and was reported in stable condition. His name was not released.
