LUMBERTON — An arrest has been made in an 8-year-old murder of a Lumberton retiree.

Eric Corey Sutton, 34, was arrested Friday and charged with first-degree murder in the death of 65-year-old John Faircloth Sr.

Faircloth was shot in his home on Wilkerson Drive in February 2008. He was found dead in the den of the house by his daughter.

Authorities at the time said Faircloth was retired, lived alone and had been seen alive earlier that day.

Sutton, of Friendship Drive, was jailed without bond.

Maj. Anthony Thompson, chief of detectives for the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office, said he did not know the relationship between Sutton and Faircloth. There were no details available immediately on what new evidence let to Sutton’s arrest.

According to an obituary, Faircloth worked as a building contractor for 47 years.
