LUMBERTON — Lumberton police are looking for a man they believe shot and killed a Fairmont man on Sunday.
Warrants have been issued for the arrest of Brandon Devon McMillan in connection with the shooting death of 30-year-old Julius Smith.
McMillan is accused of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon.
McMillan is a 29-year-old black male, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, weighing 162 pounds and has dreadlocks. A photograph of McMillan was not available. Lumberton police Lt. Harold Jackson declined to say whether McMillan is the only person being sought for Smith’s death, citing the ongoing investigation.
According to a statement from the Police Department, officers found Smith lying in the road on Chambers Street near Crandlemire Road with a gunshot wound to his chest after receiving a call about shots being fired and a second call about a person being shot.
Upon finding Smith, officers began administering chest compression until EMS arrived, according to an incident report. Smith died at Southeastern Regional Medical Center.
Smith’s address is listed as Franklin Road in Fairmont.
