Body found in Currituck Sound

KNOTTS ISLAND (AP) — Authorities have found the body of a man who was last seen several days ago aboard a skiff in the Currituck Sound.

The Currituck County Sheriff’s Office says the body of 45-year-old Stacey Ronald Twiford of Moyock was found Tuesday morning by an officer with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. Twiford was heading home from Carova Beach.

His body was found in a small cove on Mackay Island National Wildlife Refuge on Knotts Island.

The search began Saturday evening after an unmanned 19-foot skiff was seen circling south of the entrance to Tull Bay. Officials say the missing man was last seen by his sister from a different boat Saturday evening. He was reported to not be wearing a life jacket.
