PARKTON— Parkton’s wastewater collection system experienced a sewage spill at three locations on Sept.29, according to a statement from the town.

According to Public Works, an estimated 4,550 gallons spilled at 202 Church St., an estimated 19,900 gallons spilled at 160 Cemetery St. and an estimated 1,138 gallons spilled at 353 N. Green St. when manholes began overflowing into Dunn’s Marsh. The gravity line carrying the wastewater exceeded its capacity because of excessive rainfall.

The town has found no evidence that the spill affected surface waters in the Lumber River Basin. As required, The town notified the state Division of Water Quality and the agency is reviewing the matter.
