PARKTON — Excessive rainfall caused wastewater overflows at 12 locations in Parkton beginning on Oct. 7, according to a notice from the town.

According to Public Works, an estimated 848,275 gallons of wastewater spilled when manholes began overflowing into Dunn’s Marsh. The gravity line carrying the wastewater exceeded its capacity due to inflow and infiltration from excessive rainfall, the town said.

The town says it has found no evidence that the spill affected surface waters in the Lumber River Basin. As required, the town notified the state Division of Water Quality and the agency is reviewing the matter.
