ROWLAND — A Fairmont man wanted for robbing a bank earlier this month in his hometown is in the county jail today after being caught shortly after robbing another bank Friday morning, this one in Rowland, according to Fairmont Police Chief Jon Edwards.
Edwards joined Rowland and Maxton police, sheriff’s deputies, and highway patrolmen in the capture of Lynn Dale Sanders, 35, of 1825 Gaddy Road in Fairmont, Friday after a chase during which the suspect rammed a deputy’s car, disabling it. Edwards said Sanders robbed Lumbee Guaranty Bank in Rowland shortly after 10 a.m., and was arrested soon afterward in some woods off N.C. 130, west of the town.
Sanders is charged with two counts of armed robbery and two counts of second-degree kidnapping, according to Edwards, in relation to the bank robberies, and is charged by the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office with common law robbery and felony conspiracy in connection with the robbery of a convenience store. Details of the convenience story robbery were not available.
Sanders was placed in the Robeson County jail under $200,000 bond on the charges from Robeson County, and was under no bond for unrelated charges in South Carolina. He is accused in Dillon County of strong armed robbery, and assault and battery, for robbing a convenience store by using pepper spray on a clerk, according to Capt. Cliff Arnett of the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office.
The Rowland bank, which is located at 201 N. Bond St., reopened about 4 p.m. Friday.
Sanders is accused of entering the Lumbee Guaranty Bank at 301 N. Walnut St. in Fairmont about 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 2, during which he showed a weapon and fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. The same bank was robbed on Dec. 15. A South Carolina man was charged in that robbery.
