CHAPEL HILL (AP) — An Orange County jury has found a Chapel Hill man guilty of first-degree murder in the death of a professor at the University of North Carolina.

Local media outlets report 30-year-old Troy Arrington was also found guilty on Thursday of robbery with a dangerous weapon in the attack on 59-year-old Feng Liu. Arrington was accused of beating Liu with a rock on July 23, 2014. Liu died the next day.

The Superior Court jury began its deliberations on Wednesday.

Arrington was sentenced to life without parole on the first-degree murder charge, and up to 166 months on the robbery charge, which is to be served after the life sentence.

A trial date for 26-year-old Derick Davis of Durham has not been set. Davis is also accused in the killing.
