LUMBERTON — The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating two homicides, including the death of an unidentified man whose body was found in the water near Red Springs.

According to a statement from Maj. Anthony Thompson, chief of detectives, the Sheriff’s Office was still working Monday afternoon to identify the man, whose body was found at about 11:43 a.m. on Sunday by three fishermen.

The man’s body was found in water beside McQueen Road, between Mt. Tabor Road and Shannon Road. According to the statement, the body “had been tossed over the side of the bridge into the water.” The Fayetteville Police Department’s dive team assisted in recovering the body.

It’s unclear what body of water the body was found in, but there are several swamps in the area.

An autopsy is being conducted by the Medical Examiner’s Office in Raleigh to determine what killed the man, but the death is being investigated as a homicide. The statement said investigators had not even been able to determine the man’s race.

In an unrelated incident, a Rowland man was apparently shot and killed by his ex-wife on Sunday afternoon, although no charges have been filed.

According to a statement from Thompson, Jessie James Locklear, 55, went to a home on Jennie Road in Rowland to feed his animals and was shot below his waist by Jenine Lynn Locklear, 53.

Locklear died while he was being transported by Emergency Medical Services to a hospital.

According to the statement, Jessie Locklear and Jenine Locklear are listed as having the same address, 414 Jennie Road, but do not live together.

An autopsy will be conducted in Raleigh.
