PROSPECT — Longtime Robeson County educator Ruby Locklear has been presented with the state’s highest civilian honor.

Locklear was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine on Dec. 12 by Rep. Charles Graham at the Two Streams Lumbee tribal building in Prospect.

“Mrs. Locklear served the State of North Carolina for more than 37 years in a number of positions, including her service to the Public Schools of Robeson County, retiring as a school social worker at Red Springs High School,” according to a statement from Graham.

Lcoklear received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Social Work from The University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Currently she works as a vocational rehabilitation counselor for the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina. She is married to Paul Locklear Jr., and is the mother of four children and the grandmother of five.
