Volunteers of the Southeastern Health Foundation have been busy preparing for the 22nd annual gala, Garden Path for Healing.

This year, the black-tie event, which is set for Feb. 21 at Southeastern Agricultural Center in Lumberton, will raise money to create a serenity/therapeutic garden for exercise and reflection by short-term rehabilitation patients of WoodHaven Nursing, Alzheimer’s and Rehabilitation Center as well as patients of Gibson Cancer Center. Family members of patients will also be able to spend time with their loved ones in the garden.

Sissy Grantham, director of the SeHealth Foundation, announced that the chairpersons for the 2014 gala are John and Bunny Barker and Dr. Peter and Claudia Villani, of Lumberton.

“During the healing process, it is very important for patients and family members to relax and surround themselves with peaceful things,” said Bunny Barker. “The garden planned for the common area between Gibson Cancer Center and WoodHaven will provide an environment where Southeastern’s rehab and cancer patients can connect with nature and rejuvenate to be strong as they continue the journey to better health.”

The gardens will provide patients with a break from the clinical environment where their care and treatments are administered.

“Enjoying the gardens will be an outlet for patients to take not only a physical but also a mental break from the health care environment that can often times seem so overwhelming,” said Claudia Villani. “Taking in fresh air and viewing garden scenery will provide patients with a quiet peace that will help to aid their healing.”

Floral designs for the event will be created by Billy Davis of Flowers by Billy. The band Liquid Pleasure will entertain guests as they dance from 7 until 11 p.m. The gala will also feature a special raffle. To make a reservation or for information about the gala, contact the SeHealth Foundation office at 910-671-5583 or email foundation@southeasternhealth.org.
