Programs offers free


fitness for seniors


LUMBERTON — Learn about the SilverSneakers fitness program for older adults on Tuesday at 8 a.m. in the retail space beside JCPenney at Biggs Park Mall. Daniel Perdue of Southeastern Lifestyle Center for Fitness and Rehabilitation will share information about who can enroll and how to enroll for this program, sponsored by Healthways, which offers fitness center memberships at no out-of-pocket cost. Weight loss talk

LUMBERTON — Dr. Barry Williamson, of Southeastern Surgical Center, will host a seminar on LAP-BAND on Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m., at Southeastern Weight Loss Center, located within the Southeastern Health Mall on the campus of Biggs Park Mall.


Dr. Eric Velazquez, of Southeastern Surgical Center Health Mall, will host a seminar on a variety of weight loss surgery options including adjustable gastric band, sleeve gastrectomy and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass on Aug. 20 at the weight loss center from 6 to 7 p.m.

Blood drive held

LUMBERTON — Southeastern Regional Medical Center will host an American Red Cross blood drive in the Assembly Room at the medical center on Aug. 20 from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Anyone who would like to donate blood must bring a valid ID, be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. LUMBERTON — Annette Melvin and Brooke Grooms, Southeastern Occupational Health WORKS nurse practitioners will present “CDL Physicals —What your drivers need to know” during a seminar on new regulations for Department of Transportation physicals on Aug. 27 from 2 to 3 p.m. in the BB&T Room at Robeson Community College.

Cancer Center tour

LUMBERTON — Gibson Cancer Center, located at 1200 Pine Run Drive, will hold an open house from 6 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 28.


The public can tour the center’s newly renovated facility and see demonstrations with a recently acquired Versa HD system. Gibson Cancer Center is one of three medical facilities in the nation to offer radiation treatments using this radiation treatment system, which enables clinicians to treat a broad spectrum of tumors throughout the body, while enabling treatment of complex cancers that require extreme precision..
