LUMBERTON — A Robeson County woman is facing charges of murder and fraud in connection with the shooting death of her husband nearly one year ago, according to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.
Carol Lynn Anders, 53, was arrested Friday following an investigation by Robeson County Sheriff’s Office, the Lumberton Police Department, the State Bureau of Investigation, the SBI’s Medicaid Fraud Unit, the state Department of Insurance and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, according to Sheriff Kenneth Sealey.
Anders is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 57-year-old Forace Oxendine on April 26, 2013. She is also charged with insurance fraud, conspiracy to commit insurance fraud, attempting to obtain property by false pretenses and conspiracy to obtain property by false pretenses.
Sealey declined to elaborate on the fraud-related charges.
Oxendine was found dead by deputies in the backyard of a home at 499 Price Road in Fairmont with “multiple injuries that can’t be disclosed at this time because it’s an ongoing investigation,” Sealey said.
Deputies were called to the home by neighbors who reported hearing several shots fired.
Sealey said Anders owns multiple properties, including the Price Road home, but would not say if Oxendine was also a homeowner for that address.
Anders gave her address as 305 Oxford Road in Lumberton. Oxendine’s address was listed as 85 Chesley Farm Road in Pembroke, which Sealey said Anders did not own.
Sealey said more charges and arrests are expected. Anders has been placed at the Robeson County Detention Center with no bond.
