LUMBERTON — An 18-year-old man was killed when he lost control of his vehicle near Bladen County last week, according to the state Highway Patrol.
Joshua Devante Howard, of Bladen Springs Road, Council, was driving south on N.C. 41 at about 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, according to a report filed by Trooper K.D. Williamson.
Howard lost control of his 2003 Ford Mustang, which ran off the road to the right and struck a tree before overturning, the report said. The accident occurred about eight miles east of Lumberton and four-tenths of a mile from the Bladen County line.
According to Sgt. Daniel Hilburn, Howard was traveling 65 mph in the 55 mph zone and was driving with unsafe tires. Howard, who was not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected from the vehicle, Hilburn said.
A passenger, 21-year-old Brandon Harris, was uninjured.
