MAXTON — A Red Springs teenager has been charged in a shooting Friday that left a Laurinburg man in critical condition, according to authorities.

Bryton Mathyia Locklear, 18, of Red Springs, was arrested Saturday morning at a residence on Oxendine School Road, just north of Maxton, according to Capt. Mitch Johnson of the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office.

Locklear is accused of shooting Seth Anthony Strickland, 24, outside the County Line Convenience Store on Red Springs Road. The shooting occurred at about 2:40 p.m. on Friday.

Johnson said Strickland, who was inside a vehicle at the time of the shooting, was transported to Scotland Memorial Hospital and then to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. He was listed in critical condition late Monday.

Locklear’s relationship with Strickland is unknown, according to Johnson. The sheriff’s report did not indicate the number or location of Strickland’s injuries.

Locklear is charged with two counts of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, and discharging a weapon into an occupied property causing serious bodily injury.

He was placed in Scotland County Detention Center under a $400,000 bond.

The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office, the State Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives assisted in the investigation.
