Rape suspects being sought in city theft

LUMBERTON — Two men who are accused of raping a female employee while robbing a Fayetteville business are believed to have also robbed a Lumberton store the same night.
Lumberton and Fayetteville police are working together to arrest 23-year-old Cortese Tramond Davis, whose last known address was on the 400 block of Vass Road in Spring Lake, and 20-year-old Paul Merinord Smith, who last lived on Timberland Lane in Dunn.
Davis and Smith are wanted in connection with the robbery of an Advance Auto Parts store in Lumberton, as well as the robbery of an Advance Auto Parts store in Fayetteville. They are accused of raping a female employee at the Fayetteville store.
According to Fayetteville police, two men matching the descriptions of Davis and Smith robbed an Advance Auto Parts store in Fayetteville at about 8 p.m. on Saturday and raped a female employee while threatening another employee with a gun. Police say the men then drove to Lumberton and robbed Advance Auto Parts at 1978 N. Roberts Ave. at about 9:20 p.m.
It is believed that the two men committed the robberies with a semi-automatic rifle and pepper spray.
“They had a weapon that we were told looked similar to an Uzi,” Capt. Terry Parker of the Lumberton Police Department told The Fayetteville Observer. An Uzi is a submachine gun.
They have been charged with first-degree rape, two counts of first-degree sexual offense, first-degree kidnapping, robbery of a business with a dangerous weapon, robbery of a an employee with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery.
They are considered to be armed and dangerous.
