Well, we thought we were done, we really did.

But on Friday, more than $1,900 in donations to The Empty Stocking Fund arrived in the mail, and staff at the Department of Social Services, even though the deadline was passed, agreed to keep on working to make sure the money was distributed. The largest check on Friday, which was $742.66, came from the Lumberton Medical Managers Group.

The late arrivals pushed the fund’s total for this year, including $200 more in matches, to $56,339.26. That money was added to some carry-over money from last year, adding up to $59,351.03, enough to help 1,187 children this year.

Not bad, Robeson County.

From all of us at The Robesonian, thanks again for your continued support of this Christmas tradition.
