PEMBROKE — The family of the late Kenneth Ray Maynor has established an endowed scholarship at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke to honor him.

A 1957 graduate of Pembroke State College, as UNCP was then known, Maynor was the son of sharecroppers whose academic and athletic abilities led him to a career teaching high school science and coaching basketball. He also served as the executive director of the Lumbee Regional Development Administration from 1972 to 1986.

The scholarship will go to a student-athlete — preferably a basketball player — who maintains a 3.0 GPA. The recipient must be from Robeson County and a member of a state or federally recognized tribe. Demonstrated financial need will also be a consideration. For information about the scholarship, contact the Office of Advancement at UNCP at 910-521-6251 or email advancement@uncp.edu.
