RED SPRINGS — Blake Greene needed one final multi-touchdown outing to cement his name in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association record books and he got it Friday night at St. Pauls.

Greene’s 533-yard, six-touchdown effort in the Red Springs’ 45-43 loss placed him third all-time in several offensive categories including career touchdown responsibility (151) and total offense (11,816 yards).

He leaves the Red Devils with eight individual Robeson County offensive records, a conference title and two player of the year awards. Red Springs has reached the third round of the playoffs each of the past two years but saw its postseason streak end after a disappointing 2-9 finish.

“He’s going down as one of Robeson County’s best ever and I couldn’t be more proud of him,” Red Springs coach George Coltharp said. “Last night’s game at St. Pauls was vintage Blake. He looked like a star out there.”

Greene’s 40-yard touchdown pass to DeAndre Hallman in the third quarter against the Bulldogs was No. 100 of his career. Greene tossed two more after that and only six other quarterbacks in state history have accumulated more in a four-year span.

Only Charlotte Independence’s Chris Leak and Albemarle’s T.A. McLendon finished with more career touchdowns than Greene’s total of 151.

“I’ve been blessed with great teammates and coaches,” Greene said. “I’ve had a lot of fun at Red Springs.”

Several in-state programs have shown interest in Greene including Catawba and UNCP. National Signing Day is Feb. 5, 2014.

“Someone’s going to get a steal,” Coltharp said. “The kid’s got 151 touchdowns in high school. That play-making ability and drive will continue.”
