MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — PGA apprentice Scott Lambert, a former All-Peach Belt Conference standout for The University of North Carolina at Pembroke mens golf team from 2008 until 2012, won the Carolinas PGA Assistant Championship earlier this month at the Resort Club at Grande Dunes in Myrtle Beach.

Lambert, a Level 1 apprentice in the PGA Professional Golf Management program and head professional at Mill Creek Golf Club, collected his first win in the Carolinas section. Lambert finished the competition tied at 8-under-par with Rohan Allwood, a PGA apprentice from Columbia, S.C.

Both players made a par on No. 18 and, on the second playoff hole, No. 10, Lambert took advantage of a wayward tee shot from Allwood to make par and win the championship.

“It was a really fun battle out there with Rohan,” Lambert said. “We kept going back and forth, up and down. The turning point for me was when Rohan drained a 30-foot birdie putt on hole No. 16, and I had to make my seven-footer for par to stay with him. That’s when I knew I had a chance to win.”

By winning, Lambert qualified for the 38th National Car Rental PGA Assistant Championship at the PGA Golf Club in October in Port St. Lucie, Fla. The facility will be hosting its 19th consecutive PGA Assistant Championship.

Lambert finished the tournament with scores of 67 and 69 for an 8-under-par total of 136.

A native of Newcastle, England, Lambert registered a 74.8 stroke average over 83 rounds of golf in a notable career at UNCP that included 17 top-20 finishes, including four events in which he finished inside the top 5.
