Junior golfers around the county will have the chance to learn from Fairmont’s best this week when Fairmont Golf Club will hosts a three-day junior clinic on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for players ages 7 to 18.
Players ages 7 to 12 will play from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. with the older golfers going from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. There is a $20 fee per golfer, which includes a t-shirt and prizes. For information and registration call 910-628-9931.
Murphy Woods made a hole-in-one on July 15. Woods used an 8-iron to cup a 163 yard shot the par 3 No. 5. Murphy was playing with John Lahey.
J.T. Powers and Richard Lowery won the championship flight of Tuesday’s senior shootout, beating Jerry Jolly and Donald Barnes. First flight winners were Tommy Newberry and Newberry Par, with Jason Lowry and David Hunt taking second.
Second flight winners were Willard Storm and Elvin Meares, who finished ahead of Charles Blackmon and Layton Britt.
Special event winners were-Steve Lawson, Jimmy Lee, Charles Blackmon, Layton Britt, Jason Lowry, Murphy Woods, Mel Britt and Tim Moore.
The next Senior Shootout will be held Tuesday at Fairmont Golf Club with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Call the pro shop at 910-628-9931 for information and registration.
The Foundation of Robeson County Community College will be holding its 30th annual Clifford Bullard Memorial Golf Tournament on Sept. 18 at Cliffwood Golf Course.
The tournament supports the world of the RCC Foundation in its mission to provide financial support for the school’s students, activities and programs, especially as the need for scholarship assistance rises. The tournament raised more than $22,000 and the foundation expects a record-breaking event. Registration information will be announced at a later time.
Ron Jones recently scored his 10th hole-in-one when he knocked in a 7-iron from 149 yards while playing No. 2 at Pinecrest CC. Bucky Miller, Jeff Wishart and Pat Jessup were playing with Jones.
