To the Editor,
Did you know someone is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in the U.S. every 67 seconds? More than 160,000 North Carolinians have been diagnosed with this disease of the brain that impairs memory, thinking and behavior. Alzheimer’s disease, the sixth leading cause of death in the U.S., is a devastating experience for everyone involved. These statistics remind us that our only choice is to choose hope. Join us in that choice and participate in our efforts to support those affected, to educate the public, and to fund research that will one day eliminate Alzheimer’s.
In 2015, due to the combined efforts of the local businesses, long-term care communities and dedicated individuals in our county, we raised more than $12,000 in Robeson County. We turn to you this year to help us reach our goal of $12,500.
You can help us raise awareness of this dreaded, traumatic, debilitating, non-discriminating, frustrating, depressing and tragic disease through the Robeson County Alzheimer’s Walk, a fundraiser for the Eastern NC Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
We invite everyone to walk with us on Saturday, Oct. 15, at Wesley Pines Retirement Community. Registration will begin at 9 a.m., our speaker and welcome introduction will be at 9:30 a.m. and the walk will start at 10 a.m. If you have not participated in the past, you are encouraged to get involved in this event to support a cause that affects so many of the people in our county.
